We are all darkness and light…
We are all darkness and light. Sometimes the darkness overtakes us. But from birth we are light. We do things, we experience things and sometimes they seem to overtake the light, but they don’t. We just get to a place where we can’t see it, can’t see the tiny bit of light that’s within each of us.
We’re all broken, but to survive we fill in the broken parts with whatever we have around us, our hope, our love, our desperation. We walk around broken, struggling to make it through the next hour, the next day, in tact.
In our brokenness, without meaning to, we betray the people we love; our children, our partners, our family, our friends. We don’t ever plan to commit this betrayal. We faithfully pledge to ourselves, to our God, to take care of them, to never hurt them. But we do. No matter how much we want to be faithful, we fail. We are human and therefore, by definition, flawed. With the best of intentions, we live our lives and cause pain.
We deny much of this; as a way to keep going. But sometimes we get a glimpse of the pain we cause, whether it comes from pain to us caused by others or when we witness the pain we ourselves inflict, reflected in the faces of those we love. And in that moment the darkness descends and our inner light is obscured.
