I agree, and feel it’s an attempt for whites to quickly say, “ I get it”, without getting it. We must require of ourselves (as whites) to listen, to hear and sit with the pain, even if it can only be sympathetic. (I worry at my words because yours are so precise and beautiful), in the same way notions like “color blind” miss the underlying savagery that has been and is still being perpetuated. It also assumes, I think, an expectation of assimilation by Black people to white culture, rather than welcoming the diversity of experience, thought, perspective and ways of being. It’s ultimately dismissive in its plea for “just getting on with it”.
